Passing Of Director Travis L. Maher

December 28, 2022

It is with heavy hearts today that we share the passing of our brother and member of our Board of Directors, Travis L. Maher, 49, after a tough fight with cancer. Travis was a founding member of this foundation in 2020, as well as a 21 year veteran with Texas A&M Task Force 1, a Battalion Chief with the Austin Fire Department, and a 1996 graduate of Texas A&M University. He leaves behind his wife, Lauren, and his two sons, Riley (18) and Maddox (16).

Travis was not only a member of Texas A&M Task Force 1, responding to large disasters such as Ground Zero after 9/11, but was a leader and mentor to many throughout his entire career. He was an instrumental member of the TX-TF1 Water Rescue Team, a Task Force Leader, and to many was considered “the face of disaster response.”

Travis spent the last 2 years as the Foundation’s Director for US&R, and as one of the 6 founding members was instrumental in the Foundation’s creation and direction. One of the ways we will honor his legacy going forward is the creation of the Travis L. Maher Relief and Outreach Fund, which will help support the brave men and women that battle illnesses from responding to disasters such as Ground Zero.

Final arrangements are pending. Please keep Travis’s family, friends, and his Task Force family in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.

Respectfully,

Charlie Abney

President
